No tricks this year: autumn ale and candy connoisseurs

While none of us put Halloween in our top 5 yearly holidays, we still thought it would be appropriate to embrace the festive spirit and find ourselves a Halloween beer. There aren’t many things more Halloween than pumpkins, so you will see that reflected in the flavor profile of the ale. We also had some fun answering questions about our takes on Halloween so, if you are 21+, crack open an autumn ale and read along to find out about our Halloween plans. If not, chow down on some candy corn, Rolos, or Milky Ways (our favorite candys).

Jack’d Up – Autumn Ale (6.2%)

Jack’d Up was a fantastic last minute find by Elias as we scrambled for a Halloween beer. This beer is a product of one of our local breweries, Third Street Brewhouse in Cold Spring, and we love to support our local businesses.

We found that, while Jack’d Up smells like a classic light beer, it had a strong ale taste on the front. The aftertaste took over with hints of pumpkin and cinnamon, and that’s where the “pumpkin pie” flavor really came in. Overall, the beer was very earthy, and it’s a fantastic winter warmer that fits the late October/early November fall vibe.

On the box, Third Street was very clear that Jack’d Up is not just a pumpkin beer, its going for the whole pie with flavors of nutmeg, cinnamon, and vanilla. These flavors came through well and made this a unique, and delicious, autumn ale.
