Flagship beers at Bad Habit with a twist: Dark Addiction edition

While we did have a solid game plan for what we wanted to talk about in this week’s beer review, it just so happened that opportunity struck us, and it was an opportunity that we just couldn’t turn down. The boys decided it was time to return to our second home and partake in Dark Addiction Days at Bad Habit Brewing.

Dark Addiction is one of Bad Habit’s flagship beers they serve on tap, but they put a unique spin on it this past week by releasing different variants of an already fantastic chocolate milk stout. We also decided that it would be appropriate to throw in the Peanut Butter Dark Addiction for fun. If you’re 21+ and enjoy Bad Habit as much as we do, we hope that you enjoy our take on Dark Addiction Days and that you can still get your hands on some.

Dark Addiction – Chocolate Milk Stout (5.2%)

As mentioned, classic Dark Addiction is a staple of Bad Habit and a must-have. The original Dark Addiction has a strong dark chocolate nose with slight hints of coffee. We were pleasantly hit with a strong milk chocolate flavor that lasted all the way through. Even with slight bitterness on the back, it was a great easy drinker to lead off with.

Peanut Butter

If you like Reese’s and snack on pretzels with beer, this is the beer for you. Peanut Butter Dark Addiction shocked us, and it definitely does the peanut butter and chocolate combination justice. There was strong peanut butter on the nose, but we could still pick up on the chocolate. It had strong peanut butter flavor on the front, and it transitioned smoothly to chocolate on the back.

Cinnamon Toast Crunch

In kicking off the first release in Dark Addiction Days, we have Cinnamon Toast Crunch Dark Addiction. There was a small cinnamon note on the nose, but we noticed more of a chocolate smell along with some vanilla. We were surprised when we tried this one. We were expecting more of a full cinnamon flavor off the bat, but we were met with a cinnamon sugar flavor that’s more representative of the cereal. It’s a solid beer and a good start to Dark Addiction Days that left us excited for what was to come.

Snickers

Snickers Dark Addiction became an instant favorite along with the Peanut Butter Dark Addiction. We were met with stronger chocolate notes on the nose, but we quickly picked up on the peanuts and caramel on the back. All three flavors harmonized perfectly when we tasted it. There was that strong, creamy chocolate flavor we were looking for, then the caramel came through a little stronger than the peanut flavor. We thought it was a great pairing with Peanut Butter Dark Addiction, and we would have loved to poke it to bring out that caramel flavor even more.

Irish Cream

We went on to change gears with the Irish Cream Dark Addiction. This variant had strong cream on the nose with slight chocolate. We were instantly reminded of the Irish Cream Monster energy drink when we first cracked it open.

The chocolate came through on the front, but the Irish cream flavor really came through on the back. The cream aftertaste reminded us of Castle Danger Brewing’s cream ale and the Irish Cream Dark Addiction was the smoothest drinker out of all the Dark Addictions.

Chips Ahoy!

This is a beer for everyone since we don’t know anyone who doesn’t like cookies. The classic Chips Ahoy! cookie smell of chocolate, flour and sugar was there on the nose. Chips Ahoy! Dark Addiction had the smooth chocolate flavor that all Dark Addictions have, but it was more subtle on the front compared to the rest.

However, the cookie flavor we were looking for transitioned nicely on the back end, which made it a great beer all around.

French Toast

Unfortunately, we couldn’t get to the German Chocolate Cake Dark Addiction, so we’re finishing things off with French Toast Dark Addiction. We were met with maple syrup and some chocolate on the nose. There was a slight maple flavor mixed into the chocolate on the taste, but we were met with an eggy and bready aftertaste.

Very true to your classic French toast brunch. We all agreed that we would have loved to have tried this beer poked, and we imagined what it would be like to combine the French Toast and Cinnamon Toast Crunch Dark Addictions together.
