This is the opinion of Clair Moonen, CSB senior.

Welcome back and welcome home, Bennies and Johnnies.

I am so excited to be your CSB Student Senate President and am ready to get to work with you all. Whether I’m making a coffee at The Perk or walking to class, please do not hesitate to reach out to me throughout this school year. I want to prioritize you.

The mission of the Saint Ben’s Student Senate has always been to represent the voices of the student body and we are ecstatic to have you all back on campus. Just in case you didn’t know, Saint Ben’s Senate is the student elected governing body at the College of Saint Benedict. We are all students of differing majors, classes and mindedness elected by students for the positions we uphold.

I might be biased, but I truly believe we have some of the most passionate and hardworking senators this 2023-24 academic year. We are made up of an Executive Board, Committees and 21 Bennie Senators total.

We meet every Wednesday at 7:30 P.M. in the O’Conn’s Conference Room. We are currently moving offices, but can’t wait to host you all for office hours. As a team, we want to enhance your student experience and be more than just a funding source. Since our funds are derived from the Student Activity Fee, your wants and needs are top priority.

Together we work with clubs, organizations, and student groups to enrich, include, and support our CSB community. Some of the projects we have worked on in the past are Renovating O’Conns, Bennie Day, Free Freezer Meals for Food Scarcity, Women’s Month Programming and so many more.

We are your biggest fans and only are here because of you. CSB Senate recognizes that, as a traditionally women’s college, there are people and groups who have been excluded from conversations and we want to invite you all to have a seat at the table.

We are here to help you find resources and support the plethora of amazing clubs our CSB+SJU community’s house. Working with Saint John’s Senate, we hope to unify the student identity while navigating what it means to have ‘strong integration’, improve upon the student experience in and outside of the classroom, and increase transparency through active communication.

We have open hearts, ears and minds whenever you need us. Feel free to reach out to us at csbsenate@csbsju.edu or emailing me personally. We want to be as accessible as possible so don’t be afraid to use your voice.

We are and forever will be a safe and brave space for student engagement. Again, our meetings are every Wednesday at 7:30 P.M. and open to all students. We’d love to see you there—warning, sometimes we make you play Just Dance.

Welcome home and let’s get to work.
