Class of 2023: Welcome to the Alumni/ae Associations

This is the opinion of Joe Larson, SJU '21.

Congratulations to the CSB+SJU Class of 2023. As graduates of our great institutions, you are welcomed into your respective Alum Associations. As I share about the Alum Association, I suppose it would be fair to explain to you what that means. Foremost, every Johnnie and Bennie will become a member of their respective Alum Associations as they graduate—a membership that is yours, a Johnnie and Bennie for life. With that, however, comes the responsibility of being an engaged alum. That means pretty much what it does for you now as students: being leaders in your communities, attending CSB+SJU events, continuing to learn new things, expanding yourself and living the Benedictine Values. There are four primary ways our Alum Associations asks you to engage: goodwill and event attendance, recruiting future students, helping current students find jobs and internships and giving back financially toward scholarships when you can. I ask you to join me in these ways of supporting St. John’s and St. Ben’s, as part of your commitment to being great men and women. If you have a neighbor, a family friend, you can help spread the word about the wonderful experience those future students will receive when they attend CSB+SJU. There are referral scholarships available for incoming students— what better way to give back to your alma mater. CSB+SJU is a community I will always consider family; our passion for these schools and our willingness to help each other is what makes our Bennie+Johnnie network so special. I’m looking forward to meeting you all at our fantastic events hosted in the future. We can’t wait to see the great things that come from the Class of 2023. Once again, congratulations, and welcome to your Alum Association.
