Beer reviewers try fruit-filled Island Sunrises on spring break

Welcome back to your only source of serotonin each week. With the end of the semester fast approaching, we have decided to make some changes. We have cut Mack from ABC reviews. His contract was too expensive, and his performance was not meeting his pay. Instead of Mack this week I am accompanied by our roommate, Evan Czajkowski.

Mack is not actually gone. He has a lot of homework to do this week and could not find the time to do the review. He will be back next week. As always, if you are 21, remember to stop@buzzed.

While we were on spring break, we wanted a drink that fit the trip: a beverage that was beachy and fruity. This beverage is our new go-to drink to have while on a beach. You might have some ideas about what we are talking about.

If you guessed a Corona with a lime in it, you would be wrong. Fruity Margarita perhaps? Nope, still wrong. This week we are reviewing Island Sunrises.

This fruity beverage is best accompanied by cheap wings, a slight sunburn and an old man screaming at the live music for being “too loud.”

In our opinion, the music was perfect volume, and Mack and I actually enjoyed listening to it. If anyone is interested in country music, check out Ryan Dyer. Anywho, back to the review.

An Island Sunrise is made up of a cup of ice, one shot of rum, one shot of coconut rum, a half shot of triple sec, filling the rest of the cup with pineapple juice, then adding a splash of grenadine.

To make it even better, you can put a slice of pineapple on the rim of the glass and throw in a couple of cherries or maybe even a dash of love.

It is pretty tough to describe the flavor of the drink without just restating the ingredients so we will let you all imagine how it tastes mixed together.

That is a joke. We wouldn’t be very good reviewers if we didn’t try to describe the flavor with poorly written metaphors.

Have you ever had a Long Island? It tastes like that except no vodka, gin, tequila, sweet and sour mix, coke or lemon. It actually doesn’t taste like a Long Island at all. That was a pretty poor comparison.

I would compare it to a screwdriver with a Caribbean twist. The pineapple is the strongest flavor, but it is not overwhelming.

The ice is a necessity because it waters down the what would be in-your-face flavor of pineapple juice. The coconut rum adds the perfect amount of coconut flavor to the drink. As someone who isn’t the biggest coconut fan, I find it quite pleasant.

This summer if you find yourself at a lake or on vacation somewhere on a beach, I recommend you order one of these bad boys.

That is all for this week’s review. Next week we will have Mack back, and we will be back to reviewing whatever comes to mind five hours before we are required to turn in our article.

If you are a single Bennie who is as excited about the nostalgia brought on by the new Lego Star Wars game as we are, our emails are right there. Anyway, back to choring.
