Deans weigh in on student issues

This is a letter to the editor from Jody Terhaar, CSB Dean of Students, and Jeff Glover, SJU Interim Assistant Dean of Student Development.

**Link Bus**

We’re changing late-night bus culture. We want people to have fun (in addition to being safe), but we’re done with drunken, obnoxious behaviors and chanting. The costs are too high: people not feeling safe or comfortable, bus drivers fed up with behaviors and attitudes and schedules disrupted by buses taken offline to clean vomit. We can do better.

The SJU Resident Assistants are stepping up this semester to be a presence on the Link Friday and Saturday nights. They’ll be the Red Coats, identified by the red track jackets. If anyone is interested in helping change this part of our community environment, has ideas and energy to make it fun and safe and want to get paid—we want your help.

**Link Bus Schedule**

The CSB/SJU Transportation Department is working hard to find more bus drivers, and we’re hoping to get back to regular late night bus schedules as soon as possible. We understand frustrations around this, and we’re doing our best. (For conspiracy buffs, please believe we’re not doing this to make a point).

**Safety and Advocacy**

We’re continuing our process of addressing safety and conduct issues, and we’re grateful for the difficult work being done to forward our commitment to live up to our values. We’re excited about the great effort from the VAWA (Violence Against Women Act), the IWL (Institute for Women’s Leadership) and the reboot of MDI (Men’s Development Institute).

**Student Events and Activities**

There is cool stuff happening on campus. Be sure to watch your email, the electronic bulletin board and various clubs’ Instagrams for all that’s happening on campus.

Study, laugh, exercise, connect with people…life is good, live it well.
