Look good, feel good, play good

We have all heard of a catfish, but what about the opposite? If you participate in sport at CSB/SJU you have a roster photo that everyone on campus can look up.

Unfortunately, these are some of the most misleading photos of all time. Everyone’s looks terrible and does not do them any justice whatsoever.

This is very problematic because athletes do not have a choice if these photos are out there, and anyone can look these up. With technology today you would expect much better photos that more accurately represent the athletes.

By improving the roster photos, athletes would feel better about themselves and have more confidence which would lead to better performance in sports. Not only would this benefit athletes, but it would also benefit the whole campus community because on the money roster photos would be available to view while looking up your favorite athlete.

After discussing this issue with multiple athletes, they agree there is room for improvement to create better painstakingly accurate photos.

CSB/SJU athletics should strive to promote athlete confidence and positivity to take and create higher quality roster photos to improve the greater good of athletics.

A possible way to fix this issue is to allow athletes to have more say in their roster photos and have them be more personalized. Athletes should be allowed to view the photo and have more of an opinion in which photo gets used because these are public photos that can be viewed by all.

Ultimately, current roster photos are misleading and do not do athletes justice. We must encourage and advance toward better photos which will aid athletes in the confidence department and elevate the community.

By doing so, athlete’s photos will be more valid and show personality. After all, athletes are more than just a member of the team or a roster photo; they are an important part of our overall CSB/SJU community.
