Newly Elected Senators

The St. Ben’s Senate (SBS) and the St. John’s Senate (SJS) recently conducted their 2026-2027 first-year representative and open position elections.

The election results for SBS consist of sophomore Erika Islao as second-year representative, first-year A’Miah Cooper as first-year representative, first-year Genesis Rangel as equity and justice representative, sophomore Madeline Modjeski as sustainability representative and sophomore Vy Tran as club affairs representative.

For the SJS election, the newly elected representatives are first-year Avery Nathe as a first-year representative and first-year Ben Wonhof as a first-year representative.

Islao emphasized her ambitions of including students and cultivating an inclusive campus community.

“For the upcoming year, I aspire to cultivate the Benedictine value of truly listening. By listening to our community, I hope to help bring us closer today than we were yesterday.” Islao said via email.

Likewise, Rangel aims for an inclusive campus community.

“My hope for the upcoming year is to bring out the best in myself as a senator and in our community, to represent every student fairly and justly, celebrate the moments that bring us together, and help create a campus where we can all grow, support one another and look forward to the exciting changes and opportunities ahead,” Rangel said via email.

Tran said her objectives are centered around supporting student voices and concerns.

“My goal is to give a strong voice to student feedback and foster meaningful connections across campus. I hope to bridge the gap between student concerns and school policies, showing everyone that the Senate is actively working to make our campus a better, more supportive environment for all,” Tran said via email.

Cooper also talked about the importance of supporting students throughout their time here at CSB+SJU, emphasizing her goal to make all students feel valued and emboldened.

“The ultimate goal is to encourage and be a building block for success; my hope is for everyone to see that they have something worth creating in themselves,” Cooper said via email.

Similarly, the newly elected representatives for SJS highlight their goals that are focused on supporting student voices and being an active member in the community.

“I want everyone’s voice to be heard,” Nathe said via email. “I want everyone to feel like they have someone that can come up to them and talk about the Senate or life. I don’t just want to be a voice, but I want to be someone who creates action.”

Both SJS representatives said that being an active listener for the campus community and continuing to turn student voice and concerns into real change is important.

“I hope to make an impact by serving as a voice for the new freshman class,” Wonhof said via email. “I also hope to have fun.”
