Winter trends highlight oversized outerwear, skirts and textured vests
Welcome back Bennies and Johnnies to a whole new year. I thought it was time to talk about the current winter trends for this year.
Welcome back Bennies and Johnnies to a whole new year. I thought it was time to talk about the current winter trends for this year. When we slowly left the crisp fall days and entered the bitter winter days with even longer nights, the trends shifted with the changing season. Especially in Minnesota, the clothing must change faster than usual due to the quickly dropping temperatures.
Clothing doesn’t change much in the transition from fall to winter, so here are some of the trends I’ve been seeing. Oversized outerwear is hitting both the runways and the stores. Overall, the silhouette of oversized clothing seems to be taking over everything. Analyzing coats specifically, they’re showing up in non-traditional shapes, sizes and lengths. The classic leather jacket is frequently transformed into a cropped version and the typical puffer jacket seems to be getting longer and longer every winter season.
Speaking of long jackets, skirts are getting progressively longer as well. Maxi dresses and skirts are showing back up, adding a bit of fun for everyone. Personally, I love a good maxi skirt with a plaid print. Not only are skirts easy to put on, but they can be a fun statement for anyone.
Another favorite item hitting the racks would be textured vests, in particular sweater vests. A final set that seems to taking over Instagram feeds and TikTok pages is tailored suits, both for men and women. As my grandmother would say—better to dress up than dress down. And who wouldn’t want to rock a killer suit to a holiday party?
As for colors, there is a mix of bright and dulled-down tones, sticking with the theme of dopamine dressing—wearing colors and clothes that make you happy, with a strong emphasis on self-expression and not dressing for others. As the cold season continues, winter trends in Minnesota are taking shape in coordination with the season. I know I am already wearing my long winter coat on most days. Stay warm!
