CSB+SJU cross country opens season at Toni St. Pierre Invitational

The Bennie and Johnnie cross country teams opened their seasons at the Toni St. Pierre Invitational on Sept. 6 in St. Cloud at Boulder Ridge Golf Club. Both teams ran 5k races.

St. Ben’s finished second out of seven teams at the meet with 61 points. UW-Stout won the race with 26 points. First-year Eileen O’Connor led the Bennies in seventh place, running 19:15.0. Junior Mary Kenney finished right behind O’Connor in eighth place with a time of 19:15.4. Senior Kalli Smith crossed the line third for CSB in a time of 19:27.4 in 11th place.

Rounding out the Bennies’ top five was junior Eva Creighton and senior Lucy Lyngen. Creighton ran 19:53.6 and Lyngen ran 19:58.1.

On the men’s side, St. John’s finished in second place out of six teams with 40 points. UW-Stout won the race with 24 points. Senior Eamon Cavanaugh led SJU with a third place finish in 15:34.5. Sophomore Vincent Kaluza finished behind Cavanaugh in fourth place, running 15:36.0. Sophomore Cole Stencel finished in ninth, running 15:40.1. Junior Nick St. Peter finished fourth for St. John’s, running 15:43.3 and finishing in 11th place overall.

Rounding out the top five for SJU was senior Dylan Bartness. Bartness ran 15:48.6 and finished in 15th place.

Both these teams will be back in action at the St. Olaf Invitational in Northfield, Minn. on Sept. 21. The women’s race will start at 10 a.m. and the men’s race will start at 11 a.m.
