CSB Golf to begin their spring season at the Gusties Spring Invite

The Bennie golf team will begin their 2026 spring season after placing fourth at the conference championship.

The CSB Golf team looks to open their spring season on April 11 at the Gusties Spring Invite in St. Peter, MN. After a fourth-place finish at the MIAC Championships in the fall, the Bennies are preparing for their three spring invites.

This spring season is an opportunity for golfers to earn a spot in the national tournament as the automatic bid was given to the conference champion in the fall. It also provides a chance for players to compete and build on this momentum heading into the next season.

Senior Maggie Roth loves the extra time she gets to spend with the team during the spring.

“Our fall season is a shorter season compared to other fall sports, so it’s nice to get that extra spring season to play the sport we all love,” Roth said.

In preparation for the spring season, the team has been practicing a lot on their new simulator and getting out on courses with this warmer weather.

“The MIAC six just got back from Arizona for our spring break trip, which was a fun experience for us and a chance to get out of the cold weather and actually play outside,” Roth said.

Being her senior season, Roth has been focusing on being in the moment.

“This whole year has been about trying to soak in as much time with the team and my teammates. I’ve realized this is my last time being on a golf team, which is a sad thought for me because I’ve been on a golf team my whole life,” Roth said.

Roth is most looking forward to seeing where the team picks back up during this spring season.

“With how our team did in the fall, hitting school records and milestones, I’m excited to see how that will transfer into the spring and see what we can accomplish as a team,” Roth said.

For senior Catherine Jance, the spring season allows the team another chance to work on their game and compete together.

“While we are still competing in the spring, it’s an opportunity to continue things we were working on in the fall and to try out some new things,” Jance said.

In terms of goals for the spring, Jance said the team is focusing on improving, playing strong and having fun.

As a senior, Jance is also trying to be in the moment during her final season.

“I want to appreciate the dynamic of being with everyone. Golf is a sport you can play your whole life, but being on a team is special in college because it’s one of the last times we’ll be on a team,” Jance said.

In these final moments, Jance is looking forward to spending these last few weeks playing the sport she loves with the team she loves.

“Having this time to compete is a really fun experience, so I want to really enjoy it and not be too critical of my own game,” Jance said.

Head coach Daryl Schomer said the spring season is a great opportunity for athletes to finish their seasons on a high note.

“We want to compete and play well. For the seniors, it’s a chance to go out strong, and for the underclassmen, a chance to build some momentum going into the next season,” Schomer said.

In terms of goals for the season, Schomer said the team is focusing on improving their own game.

“We’re always trying to get better and do the best we possibly can. We’ve had such a good fall and lots of momentum, so we want to continue to feed off that momentum and see where that puts us,” Schomer said.

To prepare for the spring season, the team has been utilizing their indoor golf room to stay sharp during the winter months.

“The team recently went on a trip to Arizona. We wrapped up a good week of work out there and now we’re right back outside, and it’s nice to have some outdoor reps before we play in our competitive matches,” Schomer said.

Schomer is most looking forward to getting into the routine of outdoor and seeing where the team has improved.

“Despite breaking multiple team records in the fall, I don’t feel this group has reached it’s ceiling yet. Everyone is excited to get back to competing and seeing if we can add to those records books,” Schomer said.
