On Oct. 3, the CSB Golf team concluded their fall season with a fifth-place finish at the MIAC Championships in Coon Rapids. Oct. 1 marked the start of the championships, and the Bennies ended the day tied for fourth place. They fell to sixth place on day two but rallied to a fifth-place finish on the third day.

“I think the MIAC Championships went well. As a team we placed fifth which is where we wanted to be–in the top five,” Assistant Coach Haley Jung said.

The excitement of this top-five finish was shared by many of the golfers and coaches.

“I thought the team played their hearts out over three days, and that’s really all I can ask,” Head Coach Daryl Schomer said.

Sophomore Georgia Hinton led the team on the tournament’s third day with a careerbest 76, which put her in 22nd individually. Junior Hayden Boelter also had a personal best round of 84 on the final day. She tied for 37th individually and had a total of 263 shots for the tournament.

Another standout performance was junior Emily Renner, who finished 16th individually with a total of 241. First-year Jamie Bimberg tied for 17th place individually with a three-day total of 242. After only one season with the team, she has caught the immediate attention of her coaches.

“She was one of our most consistent players this fall and has a tremendous amount of talent. Jamie is super smooth and has a great demeanor when she competes. If she continues to work hard she will no doubt be one of the top players in the MIAC,” Schomer said.

Sophomore Sami Boerboom finished her tournament with a score of 263 and tied for 37th individually. The Bennies not only had outstanding performances at the MIAC Championships, but also throughout their fall season.

Boerboom said her fall season came together toward the end of the season, and her goal for the spring is working on her overall consistency. Renner said her fall season was quite successful. She had multiple rounds that went well, and she’s excited to perfect her swing for the spring season to shoot lower scores.

She recalls her proudest moment from the season was breaking the school record. Jung believes Renner is someone to watch for in this spring season. Renner was averaging a score of 79.5 in 11 rounds.

“She is on track for putting up some low numbers this spring,” Jung said.

Bimberg also had an outstanding first season and is someone to look out for this upcoming season. Hinton was another huge contributor to the team’s success this fall with her standout performances.

“A[standout performance] that sticks out to me was sophomore Georgia Hinton shooting her career-best round on the last day of the MIAC tournament. Her hard work and dedication to improve, even adjusting her swing the week before the MIAC tournament, and then going to shoot her career-best round was so fun to watch,” Jung said.

Boelter also received high praise from her coaches for hard work and dedication throughout the season.

“[She] had an outstanding season, improving her own personal rounds all season long. She also shot her career-best round on the last day of the MIAC tournament, and it was so awesome to see her improve each day,” Jung said.

The Bennies had a very successful season with many career bests and impressive finishes. They are looking forward to their return this spring.

“We have a training trip to Arizona that’s always beneficial and three more events. I have a couple of individuals in the hunt for an All-Conference selection, so we want to make sure to get them prepared to earn one of those spots,” Schomer said.
