Students discuss faith at CSB+SJU
Students were welcomed to discuss their experiences on a Catholic campus practicing different religions.
On Wednesday, Jan. 30, the CSB Campus Ministry Interfaith Leadership Team hosted Bridge Night in the Universal Prayer Space at CSB. This event gave students an opportunity to discuss what an interfaith community looks like, allowing for students with different faith backgrounds to have conversations about their own personal experiences living in an interfaith community.
The night specifically focused on campus culture, faith and how a personal faith journey interacts with campus culture. This event allowed for students with other religious backgrounds to have a conversation about living on a Catholic campus while practicing a different religion. Discussions covered a variety of topics and allowed for students to bring their own ideas and insights to the conversation. The discussion looked at how the culture of CSB+SJU interacts with personal faith. Multiple topics were discussed, including different traditions students practice on campus and what expectations students had for this campus related to faith. It opened up conversations for students to talk about their own personal thoughts on theology classes and experiences with the Benedictine values and traditions of campus life.
“You realize no matter what background of religion you come from, we’re all college students trying to figure out our own personal faith journey and working together to build a community for everyone to be a part of,” CSB senior Anne Zweber said.
Bridge Night allowed for a variety of topics to be discussed while examining faith and the differences in faith. This event also allowed for students to learn about other people’s religions and their own experiences at CSB+SJU. Discussion allowed for others to learn and gain new insights from others involving living in an interfaith community. Additionally, students discussed the importance of talking about other faiths different from their own.
“Talking about other people’s faith is important and can help you become stronger and feel better about your own faith while also learning about other people’s own faith journeys,” CSB senior Emma Muller said.
