Emily Renner, a senior on the St. Ben’s golf team, has garnered a myriad of achievements throughout her collegiate career.
According to head coach Daryl Schomer, Renner will go down as one of the best players in program history.
“She is one of only three CSB golfers to be all MIAC four years in a row, has the record for the lowest score ever for CSB (69) among her other records and has been the team MVP the past three years. For as long as I coach, I will be speaking to recruits and future players about her legacy here as being the benchmark for Bennie golf,” Schomer said.
In May 2021, Renner wrapped up her first season with winning performances, earning All-MIAC honors after a top-10 finish at the MIAC Golf Championships.
In October 2021, Renner contributed significantly to the Bennies’ third-round finish at the MIAC Championships. Her consistent performances earned her recognition as the CSB Athlete of the Week multiple times throughout the season. Renner’s skill was further demonstrated in May 2022 when she secured All-MIAC honors for the second consecutive season.
In May 2023, she was once again named to the All-MIAC team, marking her third consecutive year receiving this honor. Additionally, her academic achievements were recognized when she and teammate Georgia Hinton were named to the CSC Academic All-District Team.
According to sophomore Catherine Jance, Renner is a positive and supportive teammate.
“Emily has always led by example and has shown what a great golfer, teammate and captain looks like. She is always level-headed, supportive and kind to everyone on the team,” Jance said.
In September 2023, Renner set a CSB golf school record and led the St. Catherine Fall Invite after the first day of competition. According to Renner, shooting a 69 at this invite was one of the highlights of her career. Her performance at the St. Catherine Fall Invite earned her MIAC recognition once again.
Renner’s dedication to both athletics and academics was acknowledged by the Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA), as she received Scholar-Athlete honors in July 2023.
Renner’s accomplishments were celebrated in October 2023 when she was named the St. Cloud Orthopedic CSB Athlete of the Week. This recognition followed her third top-10 career finish at the MIAC Golf Championships.
Renner attributes her success to the support of her coaches and teammates.
“My coaches have really helped develop my game and take it to the next level. I have improved a lot since my first year, and it wouldn’t have happened without their knowledge and guidance on the golf course. Our team environment is supportive and encouraging; I wouldn’t be the same player without my teammates,” Renner said.
Renner has continued her success this spring, and she plans on making the most of her final season with the CSB golf program.
“I plan to enjoy every second I have left with my team and friends on the golf course and campus. CSB has become a second home to me; I hope to make more great memories these last couple of weeks,” Renner said.
At the Gustie Spring Invite on April 14, Renner contributed to the team’s fifth place finish along with sophomore Jamie Bimberg.
Bimberg says that Renner has positively impacted her first two years on the CSB golf team.
“I played on the golf team with her in high school, so I was thrilled to come to CSB and be on a team with her again. I felt immediately welcomed, and since then, she has been a wonderful teammate, leader and friend, helping me grow as an athlete and as a person. Emily and I are both accounting majors, so it is nice to have someone to go to for advice and help in my classes,” Bimberg said.
In the following Rumble at the Ridge tournament, Renner’s fourth place individual finish helped secure the CSB golf team’s win in the stroke play portion. Renner’s skills were further showcased in match play at the same event, where she and sophomore Maggie Roth secured victories, despite the team narrowly falling short overall.
The CSB golf team closed the spring season at the Carleton/St. Olaf Spring Invite where they tied for ninth. Renner placed in a tie for 19th with a one-round total of 83.
According to Bimberg, Renner has proven herself to be a distinguished member of the CSB Women’s Golf program, both with her athletic success and her leadership.
“Emily has led by example through her hard work ethic and determination. Not only does she push herself, but she wants everyone on the team to be successful too. She is incredibly encouraging and always has a smile on her face,” Bimberg said.
This fall, Renner will be take the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam and work as an Audit Associate at PwC in downtown Minneapolis.
