O Communio Convivium
A portrait of Emmaus Hall, the home of the St. John’s Graduate School of Theology.
We enter in, hands greet and draw near,
finding in one another welcome here.
O banquet of community,
O welcome part,
O communio convivium
finding community’s start.
Hands that pray pour pitchers with water shed,
hands that bless now break the bread.
O banquet of community,
O communio convivium
help us to find peace and equilibrium.
For food is given, a feast is shared,
hands serve the plate, all are prepared.
O communio convivium,
O table where none go without,
help us to know what love’s all about.
Enlivened together, leavened as one,
nourished by joy in the work we have done.
O communio convivium,
O gift of being placed here together,
help us to remember this time that we treasure.
O God, O Creator, bless us and our food,
as we share this convivium in gratitude.
This poem was written as a blessing for Convivium, a weekly shared prayer and meal at the School of Theology.
