International students gather for debrief
CSB+SJU students from a variety of countries gather with mentors and classmates to discuss their individual transitions into the new school year.
On Sunday, the International Student Services team hosted a “Tell Me S’mores” event at the Watab firepit at St. John’s. The purpose of this event was to foster community among first-year international students and to give them a chance to form a deeper connection with both their peers and mentors. Coming from various parts of the world ranging from The Bahamas to Vietnam, a lot of these students have not had s’mores. For many, though, it was not their first time. It is also a crucial crossover time to reassure first-year students that they have a community of people cheering them on at every step. They engaged in conversations as their mentors gained insight into their first weeks becoming acclimated to the CSB+SJU community. Some students talked about their different class dynamics and their impressive use of campus resources early on. Both mentors and mentees alike shared stories of their time here and enjoyed the weather before it got colder.
