Balance is learned, not taught
This is the opinion of Nick Gunderson, SJU '09.
As you leave home and gain independence for the first time in your life, finding balance becomes key to a successful college career. Balance is also important to create a foundation for the rest of your life.
Up until this point, balance for the most part has been dictated by your parents/guardians. You most likely were only allowed to do certain things at certain times. Now, you find yourself creating this balance based on your studies, a job, extracurriculars and friends. The activities will change, but finding the right mix is something you are learning to do in real time.
You need to find ways to prioritize things important to you. You may need to make sacrifices to make sure you get what you need done. Making sure you understand what you are prioritizing creates who you are as a person. As you get older, you will not regret the random party you missed, but you will regret not being there for a friend when they needed you most, or not getting the help you need to pass a class.
No matter how you balance, make sure you will not regret your four years at CSB+SJU.
