Reviewers take a trip down memory lane with shower sips

Welcome to our little corner of The Record. We have an all-time classic for you this week, which contains one of our last reviews. I know we have all felt the need to take a long, relaxing shower and let our minds free themselves of thought.

What could possibly add to this experience more than an ice-cold brewskie to contrast with a steamy shower? We couldn’t come up with anything better, so we decided to give it a go. We tested all of our favorite shower locations over our tenure here at CSB+SJU for you all to enjoy.

Seton 210 Showers

The first shower beers we experienced were in Seton 210, our home turf. Due to the layout of our current home, Jmay, a downstairs roommate, was forced to venture to one of the two upstairs showers so we could share our beer experience simultaneously.

We paired our showers with a classic Minnesota Brew, Minnesota Gold. The beer tasted a million times better in the shower compared to anywhere else, outside of Sal’s of course. We both agreed that something about the cold liquid inside you while being warmed by the steamy showerhead was incredibly satisfying.

The liquid was not enough; the ambiance had to fit the experience, so Chach played the Lord of the Rings soundtrack on the loudspeaker (he’s also learning this on the piano and would love to play for any lovely lady willing to listen), which only added to the relaxing endeavor.

While Minnesota Gold didn’t have a distinct taste and was comparable to the likes of Busch, it didn’t need one in the showers of Seton 210.

Tommy Showers

As past residents of Tommy Hall, we thought it would be quite the experience to go back to our old stomping grounds and have a shower beer in the communal bathrooms of the first-year dorms. Similar to our first year, the scene was a tad bit more chaotic than the solo bathrooms of Seton. Fully diving into the first-year experience, we bought the cheap tuff; we decided to have a Boxer Lager.

These atrocious drinks come in 36 racks for an incredible price of $20, making it the best bang for your buck (econ major here if you didn’t believe me before) if you enjoy drinking piss. The beverage, which lacks any real taste outside of its metallic finish, was still better tasting in the warm showers of Tommy. It kept us relaxed when we heard the screams and yells of first-year Johnnies as they ran through the halls outside. Ahhh, to be young and spry again. We’re old heads now and cannot compete with the spunk and craziness of those young bucks.

Bonnie Showers

Our next step was a classic throwback to sophomore year. We both lived in different halls sophomore year, but Bonnie is closer than Pat, so, since we’re old heads, we ventured to the communal showers of Bonnie. We drank Natural Light Strawberry Lemonades, another cheap drink, but much tastier than Boxer.

The slight fruitiness gave the showers a great vibe, which was further boosted when a stranger joined in the third shower and started playing some 80s rock. This was an excellent touch, and we strongly recommend this combination to maximize your shower beer consumption. A muchmore relaxing experience compared to the Tommy showers, which made us realize there’s still hope for those young’ns. Sophomores of Bonnie, you have great taste in music, and we salute you.

Lake Sag Shower?

To finish it off, Chach and our roomie Rark Rosen decided to try a beer in Lake Sag. They have jumped into Lake Sag every month of this school year (yes, even the winter months) and decided it could be nice enough out to give it a go with a beverage. It was definitely a challenge to get a full shower in while trying to keep the beer afloat. Maybe they didn’t get as clean as they wanted to, but hey, at least they tried. While they didn’t last the entire time in the water before the beer was gone, both stated it gave them a little extra focus and determination to stay in the water longer. Adding to the determination was the consumption of Rark’s favorite beer, Blue Moon, and the synthwave playlist that was constructed to keep our minds off the cold and on the tunes. As an important side note, Jmay was too scared to venture into the icy waters of Sag, as he prefers a nice steamy shower over an ice bath.

Overall, if you have the time and are in the correct mindset, adding a beer to your shower routine is an absolute must. Maybe don’t add beer into your daily life, but use shower beers for special occasions and locations. Special thanks to Tommy 2 short.

The beer reviewers loved the idea of shower beers but couldn’t drink in Tommy/Bonnie for legal reasons. They did walk the halls and listen to the sounds and attemped to imagine what that experience would be like.
