The best music to bring into the spring season
This is the opinion of Rhianna Anya, CSB sophomore
I believe that music is one of the most important aspects in shaping your character.
Music has the potential to change your mood, how you present yourself, how you dress and your attitudes towards the world around you.
With that, I personally change what kind of music I listen to based on the season.
This helps enhance my overall attitudes for the upcoming months and makes me excited to wake up in the morning and listen to the playlists I have made for certain seasons.
For example, in the summer I tend to listen to a lot of pop music, like Chappell Roan, or folk music, like Noah Kahan and The Lumineers.
In the winter, I like to listen to sad indie, like Adrianne Lenker and Boy Genius, or R&B, like Frank Ocean and Steve Lacy.
Obviously, you can listen to whatever artists you desire to listen to during whatever season you would like.
However, I cannot imagine myself listening to “Pink Pony Club” in the dead of winter, but to each their own.
The spring is an exciting time of year. Classes can be overwhelming but are nevertheless winding down.
The weather, though unpredictable, is warmer than the chilly winter months, and with the changing of the seasons comes the changing of the music that I tend to listen to.
Hozier’s music is the most perfect embodiment of what spring feels like to me.
Songs like, “Unknown / Nth,” “Like Real People Do” and “From Eden” are all works that encapsulate the light nature of spring.
Likewise, Gregory Alan Isakov has a similar vibe to Hozier with songs like, “Dark, Dark, Dark,” “Before the Sun” and “Amsterdam” that are all peaceful songs that are perfect for spring.
Lesser-known artists, like Rainbow Kitten Surprise also have songs that I like to listen to in the spring. “Painkillers,” “It’s Called: Freefall” and “First Class” are a few of my favorites from them.
I would consider myself biased, as he is one of my favorite artists, but Noah Kahan has several songs that I believe are underrated and like to listen to as the weather gets warmer.
“The View Between Villages,” “Young Blood” and “Godlight” are all songs that are not in his ten most streamed songs on Spotify, but all are amazing works.
I have to save my absolute favorite for last. Minnesota-born Adrianne Lenker has incredible solo music but is also a part of a band called Big Thief. The four-member band has several songs that do not get enough flowers like, “Simulation Swarm,” “Born for Loving You,” “Masterpiece,” “Velvet Ring,” “Spud Infinity” and countless others.
Listening to my spring playlists that include all of these songs helps me to appreciate the changing world around me, and I hope that you have a chance to give one or more of these artists and works a listen.
