McGlynn’s burrito falls victim to tragic budget cuts

I write this understanding that there are many serious conversations taking place on these campuses and on this page. I do not intend to make light of these issues. Instead, I look to provide a lighthearted tale about something I have always held near and dear to my heart: the burrito special at McGlynn’s. Earlier this week, I planned my Tuesday out specifically so that I could go to McGlynn’s and purchase a delicious burrito, laden with delectably seasoned chicken, zesty cilantro lime rice and fresh salsas. Monday night, I crawled into bed, excited for the following day so I could purchase one of the most delicious meals I have ever had during my experiences of the CSB/SJU dining services.

Tuesday came around, and I arrived at McGlynn’s an hour and a half before my afternoon class, specifically so I would have ample time to wait in line, purchase my burrito and enjoy it with no rush. After patiently waiting for 15 minutes in line, I got to the grill to encounter my biggest disappointment of the week. The special listed on the grill menu was not the flavorful, decadent burrito I was so deeply looking forward to, but it was instead a pepper jack burger. I was so disappointed. I even wondered if I had mixed up my days and came at the wrong time for my burrito. I reluctantly ordered a veggie burger and ate in silence, mourning my loss of my absolute favorite McGlynn’s special.

I recounted this occurrence to my roommates later that day only to find that CSB cut funds for the burrito special at McGlynn’s. I realize that recent budget cuts have taken away our ability to watch HBO for free, amongst other things. McGlynn’s can make their cup sizes smaller; McGlynn’s can get rid of the flatbread pizza option from the sandwich line. That’s fine. But taking away the McGlynn’s burrito special is simply too far.
