Annual spring rummage sale is back this year

With this past Wednesday being Earth Day, I would like to highlight a great way to be sustainable and support the local community. Starting Thursday, April 30, the St. John the Baptist Parish will be hosting their annual spring Rummage Sale. The sale runs Thursday and Friday, 7 a.m.- 7 p.m. at the St. John the Baptist Parish on Fruit Farm Road, or a short walk down the road from Flynntown. This is a great chance for students to get a bargain on clothes, books, furniture and more, with a free-will donation accepted on almost all purchases. As someone who grew up across the street from the Parish Center, I fondly remember the excitement of getting to the rummage sale early Thursday morning and finding new games, clothes and anything else I could imagine. Not only is it a great way to get a deal and be sustainable in honor of our Mother Earth, but Friday, May 1 will be May Day, a day to boycott traditional economic activity and protest the restrictions on academic and personal freedom implemented by the current administration. There will be various May Day activities to participate in on campus, from sign and button making, a lecture by Professor Christi Siver and a protest in St. Joe lead by Stand Up St. Joe starting at 3:30 p.m. (If you are interested in learning more contact Professor Pedro Dos Santos). A great way to support the economic shutdown would be to shop sustainably and put your money right back into the local community, instead of large corporations. I will be in line at 7 a.m. sharp on Thursday April, 30 to shop the great deals at the Rummage Sale!
