On Feb 5, CSB basketball looked back on their season so far and honored their only senior, Maddie Doran, in a senior night game against Macalester.
The Bennies have had a season of ups and downs this year; however, they were on fire for senior night, beating Macalester 68-54.
Doran, a captain, has been an integral part of the team for the last four years of her college basketball career. She has grown into a leader on the court and among her teammates.
During the game, her teammates honored her with speeches ensuring this game was extra special for her.
“Senior day was a blast for me. It was a day that will be remembered as one of my favorite memories from CSB basketball. Everyone made me feel so loved and appreciated,” Doran said.
Doran was the top scorer with 15 points in the win over Macalester, 68-54. While sophomore Carla Meyer followed close behind, with 14 points and six rebounds.
“I thought I played well, and I had a blast with teammates. The energy was high, and some highlights include taking three charges in one game, being the leading scorer in the game and hearing all the support from the teammates, fans, coaches and family and friends.” Doran said.
Doran reflected on how the team has been competing so far this season. She loved to celebrate the wins but emphasized that with losses, it is important to learn from them and become a better team as well.
“With what we have left for games in the season, I want to play with no regrets. I am close to the end of my career and with the short time I have left, I am going to leave it all on the court,” Doran said.
This being Doran’s last year, she mentioned some her favorite memories and advice for her non-senior teammates.
“My favorite memories include those fun times with teammates at practice and in games. I love my teammates and it is always a great time to step on the court with them,” Doran said.
As for advice, she emphasized focusing on the little things, and taking everything in, both the wins and the losses.
“Before you know it you will be a senior.” She said.
“Maddie is a great person. I could not have asked for a better leader and teammate in my first season here, she will be missed as both a teammate and a person,” first-year Sophia Jonas said.
For the remainder of the season and into post season and conference play, the Bennies have one goal — to leave it all on the court and play to the very best of their abilities, despite the outcome.
They will travel to St. Kate’s and Gustavus next week for the remaining few games of the regular season.
