Vote Putnam in the upcoming election
This is the opinion of Evan Mattson, SJU junior.
I have had the distinct pleasure to be a member of the Aric Putnam for State Senate team for a couple of weeks. Through these weeks, I have seen firsthand the passion and care Aric Putnam has brought to the table.
Now you all are probably thinking: Why do I care what Evan has to say? He’s probably just another “liberal” trying to promote a Democrat so they can take back the Senate (you know you were thinking about it). That’s not me. I come from a rural town in northern Minnesota, built on mining, unions and our beautiful lakes. I come from a family built on the values of treating others how you want to be treated, working for everything you do and above all, respecting the freedom I have been so graciously given.
So, instead, I invite you as the readers to look at this from the basis of my values, not because of some label. Now, let’s get to Putnam. He is a man on a mission—a mission to save our Democracy. When I talked with Putnam for the first time, he stressed how he works to create solutions, getting past the partisan divide in our country today. He’s not here to play politics.
When he talks about his district, you can see the excitement from him to represent the area. He genuinely cares about the people, hence why he and his team have knocked on almost 20,000 doors this election season. Aric is a father, a teacher and here to make a difference for the District 14 community.
Let these 5 key items from his resume speak on his behalf:
• Authored five bills that would support the recruitment and retention of law enforcement officers.
• Has held more town hall meetings in the last two years than all the legislators in central Minnesota combined.
• Authored a resolution to commit to and expand the Veteran Affair’s Vet Centers in Minnesota.
• Fought to eliminate the tax on Social Security.
• Authored the Hunger-Free Campus Act.
Putnam’s record truly does speak for himself. He has worked for the St. Cloud area endlessly, treated others with nothing but kindness and respected the freedom we have been so graciously given through the sacrifices made by our veterans. He does this in our community and in the work he has done on the Minnesota Senate floor.
Elections are Nov. 8, so I encourage everyone in District 14 to show up to the polls to defend our democracy and the values of this country by voting for Aric Putnam. He’s here to work for you.
