Braidology salon opens
CSB's Aurora Hall is the new home of the Braidology Salon where students can get their hair done and learn how to style it themselves. The salon provides a needed service for students of color on campus.
There is a new Braidology salon in Aurora Hall. This newly opened salon in Mary Commons is not just a place to get your hair styled—it’s a vibrant, artistic retreat created by Nikki, a seasoned hair professional with a passion for both her craft and community.
Inside Braidology, the walls are adorned with eclectic artwork showcasing Ethiopia, her homeland, and making tributes to Jamaica and iconic figures like Bob Marley. Nikki explains that this artistic ambiance is intended to showcase her creative spirit and appreciation for deep personal connections, as well as reflect her history and passion.
“I wanted Braidology to be more than just a salon,” Nikki said. “I wanted it to be a reflection of who I am and where I come from. I hope students feel the love and energy I have poured into this space.”
Nikki brings over 15 years of experience to Braidology, having honed her skills in various corners of the world. Before arriving to CSB, she worked in Kuwait, where she built a reputation for her braiding techniques and dedication to client satisfaction. Now, as she settles into her new home in Minnesota, Nikki is excited to share her expertise with the CSB+SJU community.
“The transition from Kuwait to Minnesota has been a big change, but it’s also been incredibly rewarding,” Nikki said. “I’m looking forward to connecting with students and making Braidology a place where they feel valued and at home.”
Braidology fills a significant gap in the campus community by providing a much-needed service for students of color. Prior to the salon’s opening, finding a skilled professional for braiding and other specialized hair treatments often meant long searches and extensive travel. With Braidology now on campus, students can access these services with ease, saving time and stress. Braidology is open from Tuesday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.. Appointments can be made through a variety of channels: phone, text, email, or even Instagram direct messaging, ensuring that students have multiple options for booking.
The grand opening of Braidology was on Tuesday, and Nikki is eager to meet fresh faces and introduce them to her salon.
“To know me is to love me,” Nikki said. “I hope everyone comes by to experience the warmth and creativity of Braidology.”
She also offers a course, Braidology 251, allowing others to learn how to style their own hair. She has the skills to ensure that your crown is always done to your standards, whether it is by your hands or her own.
