SJU tennis started their season with a win over conference opponent St. Scholastica on Feb. 12.
St. Scholastica is a new opponent for SJU tennis following their addition to the MIAC this fall.
After the strong start to the spring season, the Johnnies improved to 3-0 with a pair of wins over MIAC opponents Concordia and St. Mary’s on Feb. 19 and 26, respectively.
SJU shut out Concordia with a straight set win 8-0 over the Cobbers. The Johnnies continued their winning streak with a few victories over spring break during their training trip to sunny Orlando, Fla.
During the trip, the Johnnies faced off against five new non-conference opponents from NCAA Division III, Division II and the NAIA.
Along with competition play, SJU tennis was able to get some practice in and were able to play on clay courts.
The Johnnies’ opponents were from around the country, with teams from Ohio, Massachusetts, Florida and Illinois.
Now currently 6-2, SJU tennis had a successful trip, racking up three wins and only two losses, all to opponents they have never seen before.
SJU tennis had wins against Ohio Wesleyan, Monmouth and St. Francis (Ill.) during the first half of the trip. Unfortunately, the Johnnies were handed a pair of losses at the conclusion of their trip against both St. Thomas (Fla.) and Stonehill (Mass.).
SJU tennis will continue their spring season with a conference match-up against St. Olaf on Saturday, March 19. They play next weekend with a non-conference game against Augustana on Saturday, March 26.
