The CSB golf team is wrapping up their fall season of strong performances, along with two new program records set by junior Emily Renner.
“This season has been going well for us so far,” Assistant Coach Haley Jung said. “We have a few players from each class stepping up in big ways at meets, and competing in a very tough conference has created some great competition.”
The team concluded their regular season this weekend, finishing sixth out of 14 teams at the St. Kate’s Invite. On the first day, Renner recorded a first-day score of 76, and the team shot 324. She shot a second day round of 84 for a two-day total of 160, putting her tied for 19th individually.
CSB sophomore Sami Boerboom also had a strong meet, scoring 79 in the first round. On the tournament’s final day, Boerboom shot a 78 to put her tied for 15th, totaling 157 for both days.
“My end goals for the fall are placing in the top five at MIAC as a team and placing in the top 20 individually,” Boerboom said.
The MIAC Championships start on Oct. 1 in Coon Rapids, and the team is ready for the challenge.
“I think the MIAC tournament will be a good experience this year. If we can put together a few good rounds, we could have a good showing,” Renner said. “There are a few strong teams in the MIAC, so hopefully we can compete with them on the leaderboard.”
The golf team has had a strong season leading up to the MIAC tournament.
“The season has been solid so far. We’ve got a hardworking group of girls,” Renner said.
In previous weekends, the team finished no lower than 12th overall, and Renner set two new records at the DIII Classic in Hastings.
“Overall, my goal for the rest of the season is to just play my best and have a good time with the team along the way,” Renner said. “It goes by fast, so it’s been important to work hard during the season, and hopefully our efforts show at the MIAC tournament.”
The team has been resilient, competing in a tough conference, and they are more than prepared to take on the MIAC tournament.
“My goal for the end of the fall season is to make sure that every single player enjoyed their season, played their best golf that they could and is able to set goals for spring and beyond what they want to accomplish as CSB golfers,” Jung said.
