Schools continue enrollment pursuit
Admissions is working to fulfill their goal of 340 Bennies and 385 Johnnies for next year
With the year wrapping up and incoming students making their college decisions, admissions numbers are starting to roll in for both CSB and SJU. Both campuses continue to move toward their goals of 340 new Bennies and 385 new Johnnies for the entrance classes of 2023.
Taking a shift, the May 1 decisions date no longer serves as an official deadline, so students will continue being recruited throughout the summer. Official numbers and the 2023 incoming class shapes will be more accurate in late August. Enrollment at CSB+SJU is a combination of entering and returning students. As enrollment numbers continue, the institutions will be working on their Strategic Plan over the summer and next fall and will help in all the work being done to steady enrollment. Cory Piper, dean of admissions, said via email that “we are working towards an upward of trends, both in entering students and returning students.” According to Piper, CSB+SJU offers a fantastic education and student experience, which is something that new students look at when making college decisions.
“We are distinctive with [our] two beautiful campuses, strong academic programs, outstanding study abroad programs [and] our impressive job placement rates, just to name a few things,” Piper said. “We encourage students to decide on a college that feels right for them, where they can see themselves thriving.”
Admissions are hard at work recruiting students to the campuses of CSB+SJU and have no plans to stop their tactics. With high school visits, attending college fairs and hosting many on-campus events such as personal tours and group visits, prospective students can see what CSB+SJU is all about and gain perspective and encouragement to enroll. Emily Wagner, a junior at CSB and admissions employee, shared how tour guides have been involved in new ways to get students engaged and excited about attending CSB+SJU.
“We send little postcards and encourage visits; we sent sticker packets to students who submitted tuitions deposits. It’s just the little things like that that make prospective students excited and see us as a school that is set apart from others,” Wagner said.
Changes such as creating a refundable tuition deposit, sending out scholarship offers along with acceptance letters and adding more school visits have allowed CSB+SJU to have allowed holistic reviews of recruitment practices. These changes, reviews and processes will further allow future admissions and enrollment numbers to be clear within the upcoming school year.
“At this time in the admission cycle, the classes are coming together, so it will be best to share and see this data later on,” Piper said.
