On January 20th, a group of students gathered to attend the 39th annual “Students for Life of America” National Conference and the “National March for Life” in Washington, D.C. The five-day trip was organized by the CSB/SJU Students for Life group and was open to all students.

While the students waited in the cold before boarding the bus, SJU senior Miguel Salazar led the group in prayer before departing for the more than 20-hour drive.

“We trust you, God, that this will mean something,” Salazar said.

That is the aspiration shared by tens of thousands of people who traveled from all corners of the nation to gather and march from the National Mall to the Supreme Court to voice their opinions on the anniversary of the decision of Roe v. Wade, a Supreme Court case that legalized abortion. Many organizations, churches, schools, colleges and individuals showed up to show their support for life with banners and signs.

The “Students for Life” National Conference on Sunday, Jan. 22, preceded the march. More than two thousand students attended the sold out conference. According to the National Students for Life organization, 47 percent of women entering college campuses are Pro-Life while only 27 percent remain so by graduation. With keynote speakers, break-out sessions, meals, vendors and many students, the conference to educate the “Pro-Life Generation” lasted all day and well into the evening.
