Thorpe Running, age 69, died Friday, April 23 at the St. Cloud Hospital. Thorpe taught Spanish at CSB/SJU until his retirement in 2005. He was a scholar of Latin American poetry and published numerous books and articles. He ran marathons and did triathlons until 1999, when he had a serious bicycle accident and became a quadriplegic. After his accident, he continued to do Spanish research and travel with his wife, Cheryl. Many students from CSB worked for Thorpe as morning caregivers and research students. They enjoyed getting to know Thorpe and they will join his family as honorary pallbearers at his funeral today. He touched many people’s lives, and he will be missed by all who knew him.
